8.The Epistle to Philemon 20 questions

  • 2 Steps

About

This epistle was written by the apostle Paul to Philemon, a wealthy Christian in the city of Colosse. It is very likely that the epistles to Philemon and the Colossians were received at the same time. The content of this epistle revolves around Onesimus, one of Philemon's slaves, who had fled to Rome, met Paul, and converted to Christ. Paul sends this short epistle with Onesimus, whom Paul brings back to Philemon, begging him not to punish him, but rather to receive him as a brother in faith. We may ask why, why this letter, which deals with a personal matter, and does not contain Paul's typical doctrinal statements, became part of the scriptures. Although brief, this epistle contains valuable lessons of practical application in the area of relationships between brothers in faith.
