About
The Epistle to the Philippians was written by the apostle Paul approximately in the year 62 after Christ. It was in Philippi that a woman named Lydia, the jailer, and her family came to the gospel. (Acts 16:14-34) This was the beginning of the first church on the European continent. Paul writes to the already established church at Philippi, acknowledging and expressing his gratitude for an offering brought to him by Epaphroditus. This particular epistle is one of great affection and appreciation. Paul's great love and care for the Philippians is evident in this epistle. Although Paul is imprisoned at this moment, this is an epistle of triumph and joy. Paul does not set his eyes on the circumstances around him, but rather his gaze is on the Lord Jesus, being aware that God is more than powerful to act in any circumstance as long as he is a submissive vessel.
